Want to study abroad?
Tuesday, 21 January 2014

There's some advice & opinion from Sis Syazana Nazura at the facebook.

Assalamualaikum,

Just a little sharing for all you hopeful people who dreamed of studying abroad.

1) Think about why you want to go abroad.

- Studying abroad is not as easy as it seemed. Mungkin you dah selalu nampak gambar seniors or kawan2 yang belajar kat luar negara, main snow or pergi travel or join different things yang tak ada kat Malaysia, and it makes you feel jealous of them. It makes you feel envious of them, and makes you feel like you want to go abroad.

Tapi rethink balik your intentions of going abroad. Kalau takat nak bergambar dengan snow or takat nak dapat the title 'SAYA PELAJAR DI UNIVERSITY SEKIAN SEKIAN DI LUAR NEGARA', memang you will find it a hard time to survive.

2) Prepare mentally, physically, spiritually.

- SUSAH WOI NAK SURVIVE KAT LUAR NEGARA NI, SERIOUSLY SPEAKING. Temptations kiri kanan depan belakang, kalau tak kuat, memang boleh succumb wehh. Temptations nak spend duit banyak2 sebab benda murah, temptations nak pergi sini sana sebab bukan selalu dapat travel abroad, temptations to do all sorts of things sebab dah takde dah parents nak cakap yes or no to what we do.

Iman kena kuat, hati kena tabah, mental kena kental. Kalau tak, wallahualam, apa-apa pun boleh jadi.

3) Tukar mindset.

- This will come after your SPM results, and I will remind you guys of this again, tapi seriously, kalau korang dah dapat results SPM nanti, jangan fikir, "Oh, aku dapat results gempak, so I DESERVE TO STUDY ABROAD." Mindset macam ni memang macam haram ah aku cakap, apa, kau ingat kau sorang je yang 'deserved' to study abroad?

Studying abroad is not a privilege, it is a RESPONSIBILITY. Lagi-lagi if you're under a scholarship, tak kira la dari siapa pun. Sebab people are supporting you to study, so if you main-main and screw up your undergraduate life, you're wasting the people's money and investment in you.

And so, with this three reminders and a link to one of my latest posts, I shall bid farewell for now 'cause my class is starting in 10 minutes.

Untuk sesiapa yang nak sangat study abroad tu, remember, "NIAT KENA BETUL KALAU NAK STUDY KAT LUAR."

Peace out

p/s. Kalau sesiapa yang teringin or terfikir nak belajar kat USA, roger la. InsyaAllah akan membantu. Tapi kena bersedia, sebab I can be pretty sarcastic and my advice can be a bit hurtful. Bukan nak demotivate, cuma nak korang learn that it is not an easy journey.

Sambungannya.........

Bak kata Khairul Nazran Kamarulnizam, daripada risaukan diri dan sibuk bertanya macam mana nak belajar kat luar negara ataupun sibuk nak mohon biasiswa sini sana, lebih baik fokus kepada diri sendiri dan tingkatkan kemampuan diri.

Kalau ya pun anda dapat results gempak, kalau skill sets tak ada, takdenya biasiswa datang bergolek kat kaki awak. Percayalah.

So take this time while you're waiting for your results to improve yourself. Stop worrying about whether or not there'd be a scholarship for your chosen course and think about whether or not YOU'd be eligible for a scholarship.

Selalu sangat jumpa orang dengan biasiswa ataupun pinjaman MARA yang fikir, "Oh, AKU DAPAT RESULTS GEMPAK MASA SPM, AKU BERHAK DAPAT SCHOLARSHIP NI."

But you know what, KAU TAK BERHAK PUN DAPAT SCHOLARSHIP TU.

Biasiswa, pinjaman pelajaran MARA dan sebagainya. Benda ni semua bukan satu 'prestige'. Benda ni semua diberikan kepada anda bukan sebab anda 'LAYAK'. Bukan sebab anda 'PANDAI'. The truth is, ramai je yang LAYAK. Ramai je yang PANDAI. Anda dipilih untuk memegang biasiswa kerana mereka rasa anda layak untuk memegang TANGGUNGJAWAB YANG BESAR DAN BERAT ini.

Having a scholarship is not a privilege, it is a responsibility. People would be paying for YOUR education, so make sure you layak untuk memegang tanggungjawab besar tu.

Cuti 3-4 bulan before keluar results ni, buatlah something yang bermakna. Do something that would make you stand out in the application process.

And for some of you, belajar tukar mindset tu. Having a scholarship is not as easy as it seems. Bebanan tanggungjawab berat kat bahu anda, and you may be asked about it in the afterworld. Kalau kita bazirkan biasiswa ni, apa nak jawab kat alam sana nanti? Renung-renungkan.

Sesi soal jawab di laman facebook .........

Q : AsSalamualaikum. .sape2 leh tlg explain cmNe nak mOhoN belajar kat Uk and biasiswa skali. .lau bleh terangkan scr dEtail?

A : Waalaikumsalam.

Application to UK Universities melalui UCAS Application (macam UPU jugak). To study in UK, digalakkan buat A-Levels masa preparation, though buat IB or asasi or any other accepted foundations pun boleh.

Biasiswa itu lain cerita dari application ke UK Universities. Dapat biasiswa tak semestinya menjamin tempat di UK universiti, and same goes to the fact that getting accepted to a UK university tak menjamin dapat scholarship .

Biasiswa banyak yang bukak lepas SPM results keluar, nanti tengoklah sendiri requirements berapa and macam mana nak apply.

Ada biasiswa yang hantar ke UK, ada yang hantar ke tempat lain. Pandai2 la cari yang ke UK.

Wishing to study at United States of America ?

Assalamualaikum,

Okay, for all you hopeful people wishing to study in the United States of America (maaf, kami tak mahir bab-bab universiti di Malaysia, itu boleh tanya senior yang lain), Khairul Nazran Kamarulnizam and I are here to help, insyaAllah.

What you need to do from now on:

1) Kumpul results exam dari Form 1 sampai Form 5. (Results mid-year and end-of-year exams, trial and real PMR and SPM je)
2) Translate all results exam into English.
3) Mantapkan English semantap-mantap yang boleh, sebab korang kena ambil SAT exam yang susah macam haram (www.sat.collegeboard.org)
4) Cari cikgu and counselor untuk tuliskan recommendation letter.
5) Start muhasabah diri dan fikir what makes you you. Think about your passion, your interests, what drives you, your strengths and weaknesses. List everything down. You will need this for future application essays.
6) Start looking at scholarship bodies that offer your particular course of interest (MARA, JPA, Petronas, BNM, YPPB, etc?)
